Ekaterina Golubina is born in Kola, once an old town above the Polar circle, now the suburb of Murmansk. She has graduated from Goldsmiths University (London) and has been trained at Damien Hirst studio – however, in her native town she has mostly been working with participatory projects which included young artists and musicians of the North.
She has been one of the artists who have started Arctic Art Institute in 2014, before she left Murmansk because of the lack of support from the local government to young artists. In the Post-Soviet Murmansk there is a different understanding of what art is than it was at Goldsmiths, and there are no scholarships, grants or any infrastructure. However, she is connected to the North and collaborates with Norwegian artists.
